Aardvark Sweep sweeps, are qualified chimney sweeps and installers and are accredited through the Sweepsafe and HETAS. This means that we able to certificate all work carried out and should you be misfortunate enough to have a chimney fire, will be able to use this certificate as evidence to your insurance company that your chimney has been appropriately maintained.

The Small Print!
TERMS & CONDITION FOR AARDVARK SWEEPS
We undertake to do the best job possible for our customers for a quoted price. That is our commitment to you. Of course, like many businesses there is some ‘small print’ so here it is.
We operate a ‘fixed’ pricing scheme for a straight forward sweep or job. We rely on you to tell us what we are sweeping – the price will be quoted to you based on that information. If you have failed to tell us in advance of any problems, or that it is, for example a fireplace that is larger than normal, we reserve the right to ‘re-quote’ on arrival. You can decline to use the service at that point, although a site visit charge will apply. If we encounter a problem (this might for example, be a blockage or a problem flue, or a very neglected non-regularly swept flue). The sweep will advise you if there are any extra charges to be made. If you decide you do not want the sweep to continue with the job, we reserve the right to make a charge to cover our costs, including a contribution towards work already undertaken.
- Chimney sweeping payment is due at the time of provision of the service, except where arranged in advance.
- Stove installation work is paid 50% in advance when the booking is made with the balance on the day of completion.
- Various payment options are offered. You may pay by cash and card for chimney sweeping work and by BACS transfer or card for stove installations.
- Cheques are no longer accepted
- If we find a problem we will tell you. If we can resolve the problem but it is necessary to charge extra, we will tell you before the work is undertaken.
- A certificate issued on completion of a sweep or installation. If appropriate, this will include a brief description of any faults found.
- If payment is late, we will send two reminders over a 14 day period. Following which we pass over the management of the due amount to a dedicated collection agency. At this point the overdue amount will attract a daily charge of 1% of the total amount owed, plus any charges levied by the collection agency..
We understand that our customers have busy lives too. If you have to change or cancel an appointment, please give as much notice as possible. We have allocated time in our day specifically for you and late notice cancellation may mean we cannot rebook. We may have turned away other customers if we have a full day. We reserve the right to charge a fee in the event that no-one is home when we attend the property, and/or we cannot gain access. We also reserve the right to charge in the event of a last-minute cancellation, (less than a full 48 ours notice).
Charging If We Are Unable To Carry Out Sweep Upon Arrival
Should our sweeps turn up and be unable to carry the sweep out then we reserve the right to charge the full price of the intended booked sweep. We are happy to advise on remedial action needed to enable a sweep to take place but as our time and diary space is very busy and precious we cannot attend properties and walk away due to lack of information or incorrect information provided when booking. We always try and be thorough with asking as much as possible, when the booking is made, but if your unsure please send us some emails with pictures before we confirm the appointment.
If we are working outdoors, such as fitting a cap, cowl or installing a liner, the work will be dependent upon the weather being suitable for working from a ladder. We are sorry if we have to postpone, but we will do our best to carry out the work in good time.
Great care is taken to prevent damage to your property. Before a sweep the area around the fireplace, including sofas and other furniture is covered in plastic drop sheets and the floor protected with correx sheeting. For any stove installation, protection is extended to the whole room and a corridor of floor covering is made between the front door and the room where the work is taking place.
We can only emphasise the very special care we take to ensure the care of your home, as our reviews testify. If there is anything that you are particularly concerned about, do let us know in advance, so we can ensure that any required additional measures are put in place.
We occasionally encounter issues with poorly maintained roofs, chimney stacks and pots, the sweep/installer cannot be held responsible for issues caused by such neglect. Material information should be disclosed, such as age and type of covering, and any known problems. We’ll do our best to advise you and take precautions to prevent damage, but in some instances, may recommend remedial work prior to sweeping or ask you to sign a disclaimer to allow us to continue. Please do not be offended, we would rather you knew in advance. Cowls and some chimney pots have a limited life as they have been in situ for many years, and/or may not have been fitted correctly or poor-quality products have been used. Without confirming the security of these from the ground, we cannot accept any responsibility for these coming loose, breaking or falling off. Also, any damage they may cause to roofing and anything below as they fall. We are legally required to exit a chimney pot for a certified chimney sweep, if a cowl is present we always take great care to enter these.
If a job requires scaffolding, we are able to subcontract this to a scaffold company on your behalf. If there are any issues relating to the scaffolding, as a goodwill gesture, we will do our utmost to resolve any such issues on your behalf. However, it should be noted that we are not accountable for any such issues or cost arising from the erecting and striking of the scaffolding. Any claims should be pursued directly with the scaffold company.
Another common issue is the cracking or breaking of stove bricks. These are considered consumerable items and we are not liable if they break as part of the standard stove sweeping process.
If your chimney/flue has not been annually swept as per the UK recommendation’s for burning solid fuels, the sweep price may increase as it becomes not a standard chimney sweep. If we must clear register plates from debris before we can start, then additional charges shall be added for time onsite. We rely at booking stage for as much information from you as possible before we attend so we can quote an accurate price for you.
We occasionally come across a stove that has been incompetently installed. In these cases we are likely to advise that the stove should not be used and advise as to the costs for remedial works. In these cases, we will charge a reduced call out fee.
Steel lined flues are not indestructible. We use the most advanced method of power sweeping, insurance approved, and all our sweeps have undertaken training in its use. For stainless steel flexible and rigid flue systems we will use a specific head and rods to undertake the power sweep.
It is the customers responsibility to check out the requirements for any planning permissions, party wall agreements and/or listed buildings consent.
Warranties and Guarantees
The workmanship related to the installation of a liner and/or stove is guaranteed by Aardvark Sweeps for 3 years.
Liners are covered by the manufacturers warranty. Typically this is 15 years for a 316 grade liner and 20 years for a 904 grade liner. The manufacturers warranty is based on a reducing liability. This means that in the event of a liner failure, the the cost of the liner and installation is reduced pro rata for every year that it used before the claim, e.g if you claim in year 10 for a 316 grade liner, the guarantee liability is 33.33% of the original cost.
Stoves are covered by the manufacturers warranty. It should be noted that the glass is not included in the manufacturers warranty, neither are the internal fire bricks.
All warranties are dependent on the appliance and liner being used in accordance to the manufacturers guidelines and flue being serviced yearly, with a recognised sweep’s certificate in evidence.
